Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan was an Indian politician from Bihar and, Food and Public Distribution. Ram Villas Paswan was also an eight-time Lok Sabha member and current Rajya Sabha MP, President of Lok Janshakti Party. He started his political career as a member of the Samyukta Socialist Party and was elected to the Bihar legislature in 1969. Later, Paswan joined the Lok Dal after its formation in 1974, and became its general secretary. He resisted the Emergency, and during this period he was arrested. He entered the Lok Sabha from 1977 Hajipur constituency as a member of the Janata Party, again elected in 1980, 1989, 1996 and 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2014.
In 2000, Paswan made the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) its president.
